Committing sins during Ramadan Fatwa No: 82510
- Fatwa Date:21-12-2000
I want to know if a person does bad thing like saying bad words watching bad films or some thing else in Ramadan what should he or she do for it?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
There is no doubt that Ramadan is a month of worship and repentance, so a Muslim should preserve it from any talk or acts that are not beneficial. He should especially protect his limbs from acts of disobedience and have a good conduct and avoid improper behavior. This should not only be in the month of Ramadan but at all times as it is known.
However, it is from the Wisdom of Allah that he favored some creatures over others, some times over others, some places over others, and some people over others. Therefore, committing a sin in the favored times or at the favored places is greater than in other times or other places, in the same way that an act of obedience in them is multiplied more than at other times or places.
For this, we say to the person who keeps on saying bad words during this month, and looks at what Allah has forbidden, like watching pornographic films, or looking at nude pictures, to repent to Allah and perform good deeds as much as possible. Allah Says (what means): {Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds.} [Quran 11: 114]
Also, the Prophet said: “And perform a good deed after having committed a bad one, it will wipe it out.” [Ahmad, Abu Daawood, Ibn Maajah, At-Tirmithi, An-Nasaa’i, and Al-Haakim]
Allah knows best.
