- Fatwa Date:4-12-2002
I am doing a research on "women being accused of Zina"(Al-ghazf)Would you please send me articles explaining the views of sunnah in this regard?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Slandering a Muslim (man or woman) is among the major sins. Allah Says (what means): {And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses — lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient.} [Quran 24: 4] Allah also Says (what means): {Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment.} [Quran 24: 23]
The Prophet said: “Avoid the seven great destructive sins.” The people enquired, “O Allah's Apostle! What are they? “He said, “To join others in worship along with Allah, to practice sorcery, to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause, (according to Islamic law), to consume Riba (interest and/or usury), to eat up an orphan's wealth, to turn one’s back to the enemy and flee from the battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything touching chastity and are good believers.”
The Hadd (i.e. the corporal punishment determined by the Islamic Law) is mentioned in the Quran, Hadeeth and all the Muslim scholars are agreed upon it.
