Excellence of prayers in Rawdhah Fatwa No: 90997
- Fatwa Date:2-1-2006
In Masjid An-Nabawi (at Madeena), on the right side of the Prophet's grave, I have seen a green carpet area and people strive hard to pray there and make Du'a, believing that this green carpet area is from the Jannah. Is there any truth in it?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
The area to which you pointed to in your question in the Prophet's mosque is the garden which was mentioned in the Prophetic narration as the Prophet said: "Between my house and my pulpit, there is a garden from the gardens of Paradise." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Some scholars are of the view that it is desirable to perform the prayer of salutation to the mosque in this place if it is possible for him to do so.
The scholars explained the above narration according to the following points:
1- This is a resemblance, which is that it is like one of the gardens of paradise in regard to the descent of mercy and happiness by attending the circles of knowledge.
2- This is only a metaphor; it means that performing acts of worship in it will lead to Paradise.
3- This means that it is really a garden from the gardens of Paradise and that this particular place will be moved to Paradise on the Day of Resurrection.
Allaah Knows best.
