What is the interpretation of the narration “Convey from me even one Aayah [verse, narration,…]?

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The expression you inquired about is part of an authentic narration reported by Imaam Al-Bukhari and others.

As regards its interpretation, it is that a Muslim is required to convey the Quranic verses and the Prophetic narrations to others who did not hear about them.

Almubaarak poori said: 'Convey from me means even a short verse from the Quran. The Quran was conveyed to us by the Prophet and was revealed to him by Allaah [through the angel Jibreel (Gabriel)]. We understand from this expression that narrating and conveying the narrations of the Prophet is included.'

However, some scholars are of the view that what is meant from Aayah in the narration is any beneficial statement, like ‘whoever remains silent is safe’ and ‘the essence of religion is advice’. Therefore, the meaning will be ‘Convey about from my narrations, even a little number of it only.’

Nonetheless, the correct meaning is the first statement as preferred by Almubaarak Poori.
