The reciter of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam Fatwa No: 91774
- Fatwa Date:2-4-2006
Who was the reciter of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
It could be that the reciter of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi was sallam, was 'Abdullaah Ibn Mas'ood, may Allaah be pleased wit him. The Prophet said about him: "Whoever would like to recite the Quran as it was revealed, he should recite it according to he recitation of Ibn Um 'Abd (i.e. 'Abdullaah Ibn Mas'ood). [Ahmad, At-Tabaraani, Ibn Habbaan, and Ibn Khuzaymah]
Furthermore, 'Abdullaah Ibn Mas'ood narrated: "The Prophet asked me: "Recite the Quran to me." I said: "How would I recite the Quran to you while it was revealed on you? He said: I like to hear to from others." So, I recited An-Nissaa' [chapter 4], and when I reached the verse in which Allaah says (what means): {So how [Will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you, [O Muhammad ], against these [People] as a witness?} [Quran 4:41], I looked up, [or a man beside me nodded to me, and I looked up] [the doubt is from the narrator] so I looked up and I saw tears coming down his cheeks." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Allaah Knows best.
