Explanation of Quran [31:33] Fatwa No: 92264
- Fatwa Date:1-8-2006
Assalamu Alaikum, Allah says in the Quran that no soul will benefit the other during Day of Judgement. But there are many Hadith which says that a supplication of a pious son will benefit his father and supplication of a muslim will benefit a deceased muslim. How can the hadith be reconciled with the Quran.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Allaah, the Most Exalted, clarified in His Book that every person will be rewarded according to his own deeds on the Day of Judgement and no one will bear the sins of another person or will be held accountable for the sins of others. On that Day each person will be preoccupied by his own self; for more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 88578.
As regards the supplication of a son/daughter to his/her father who is alive or dead, and the supplication of a Muslim for another Muslim, then this is benefiting them while still in this life, and before the Day of Judgement.
Therefore, there is no contradiction between the verse and the narrations which say that the dead benefits from the supplications of a live person.
Allaah Knows best.
