The urine of camels as medicine Fatwa No: 93051
- Fatwa Date:26-2-2007
AS-salamu A'laykom! Brother Could you please explain this to me the hadith of drinking milk and urine of the Camel, are we Muslims allowed to drink the urine as a medicine? Please reply as soon as possible because we are not like Hindu that they are drinking the urine of the cow. Jazakallahukhair...Abu Imran Volume 7, Book 71, Number 590: Narrated Anas: The climate of Medina did not suit some people, so the Prophet ordered them to follow his shepherd, i.e. his camels, and drink their milk and urine (as a medicine). So they followed the shepherd that is the camels and drank their milk and urine till their bodies became healthy. Then they killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. When the news reached the Prophet he sent some people in their pursuit. When they were brought, he cut their hands and feet and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
The Prophetic narration which you mentioned in the question is authentic and is reported by Al-Bukhari, Muslim and others .
The narration is proves the permissibility of drinking the urine of camels and that it is a beneficial medicine. Moreover, some doctors stated this fact as well, like Ibn Seenaa in his book entitled ''Al-Qaanoon (The Law (of medicine))''.
The urine of camels and that of cows is pure; and this is the view of the majority of the scholars .
Similarly, the urine and dung of animals which we are allowed to eat their meat, is pure as stated by the scholars .

Allaah knows best.
