Around 200 people have taken to the streets of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek calling for prime minister Felix Kulov's resignation.

They blame Kulov's government for the killing on Thursday of an MP, whilst he was visting a prison to assess conditions there.

Kyrgyzstan's new leadership has been struggling to maintain law and order ever since an uprising in March ousted president Askar Akayev.

One group of MPs is pushing for an emergency session to demand Kulov step down or be removed.

The MP visiting the prison, Tynychbek Akmatbayev, was shot dead by a prisoner who held a grievance with the MP's brother.

He was the third MP to be killed since the March uprising.

Prison guards have only just returned to the country's prisons after the government ordered them to leave for their own safety following the killing.

The security forces were sent in to encircle all prison buildings to prevent inmates escaping, but were not ordered inside leaving the prisoners unguarded.
