Israel fired at least six artillery shells on southern Lebanon, a security source said on Saturday.
They targeted an area where two rockets were fired towards Israel, one of which struck northern Israel.
Lebanese security officials have said two rockets have been fired from south Lebanon towards Israel.
The rockets, however, fell short of their target, landing in empty fields inside Lebanese territory close to the border.
No one has claimed responsibility for the rocket firing on Saturday.
The Israeli army confirmed that a rocket fired from southern Lebanon landed in northern Israel, injuring a woman slightly.
UN peacekeeping troops have set up checkpoints and prevented people from heading into the area of the clashes, residents said.
