The most significant objections of the leaders of polytheism were directed towards the oneness of Allah The Exalted, belief in the Last Day, the prophethood of Muhammad and the Noble Quran, which The Lord of the Worlds had revealed to him:
First: Their objection to the Oneness of Allah The Almighty
The polytheists of Makkah did not deny that Allah The Almighty created them as well as everything else. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And if you asked them, “Who created the heavens and earth?” They would surely say, “Allah.” Say, “[All] praise is [due] to Allah”; but most of them do not know.} [Quran 31: 25]
However, they worshipped idols claiming that they brought them closer to Allah The Almighty. Describing this, Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {Unquestionably, for Allah is the pure religion. And those who take protectors besides Him [say], “We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to Allah in position.” Indeed, Allah will judge between them concerning that over which they differ. Indeed, Allah does not guide he who is a liar and [confirmed] disbeliever.} [Quran 39: 3]
They took the worship of idols from neighboring nations. Hence, they met the call to Tawheed (monotheism) with the greatest denial and the most intense amazement. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, “This is a magician and a liar. Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing.” And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], “Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended. We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication.”} [Quran 38: 4-7]
They also had an invalid conception about Allah The Almighty as well as His relation with the creation. They claimed that Allah The Almighty had a wife of the Jinn and that she gave birth to the angels. They believed that the angels are the daughters of Allah The Almighty - exalted is He and High above what they say by great sublimity.
Verses were revealed to indicate that Allah The Exalted created the Jinn and the angels just as He created man, and that He took neither a son nor a wife. Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {But they have attributed to Allah partners - the Jinn, while He has created them - and have fabricated for Him sons and daughters. Exalted is He and High above what they describe. [He is] Originator of the heavens and the earth. How could He have a son when He does not have a companion and He created all things? And He is, of all things, Knowing.} [Quran 6: 100-101]
Other verses were revealed to clarify that the Jinn acknowledge that they are slaves of Allah The Almighty and deny any kinship relation between them and Allah The Almighty who Says (what means): {And they have claimed between Him and the Jinn a lineage, but the Jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment].} [Quran 37: 158]
There are also verses that were revealed to command the polytheists to follow the truth and avoid both conjectures and illusions. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names, And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.} [Quran 53: 27-28]
Other verses were revealed to clarify that it is illogical that Allah The Almighty would grant males to the polytheists and allocate females for Himself, as the latter were less in value in the sight of the polytheists. Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {Then, has your Lord chosen you for [having] sons and taken from among the angels daughters? Indeed, you say a grave saying.} [Quran 17: 40]
Other verses were revealed to make the polytheists feel responsible for their groundless claims. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And they have made the angels, who are servants of The Most Merciful, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.} [Quran 43: 19]
