The leaders of some Muslim nations, including U.S. ally Pakistan that shares a long border with Afghanistan, have asked the United States to halt its bombing of Afghanistan for Ramadan, which is due to begin in about two weeks.
Rice told reporters at a briefing, ``This is an enemy that has to be taken on and taken on aggressively and pressed to the end and we're going to continue to do that. We have to continue the military action,'' she said.
``The United States was attacked on Sept. 11 with incredible brutality. We continue to be concerned about further attacks,'' she said.
``We have no choice but to try to go both to the source of this in Afghanistan and to try root these organizations out wherever we can and we have to get about that business. We can't afford to have a pause.''
