Three Iraqis were killed and three others seriously wounded in an apparent US air strike on a pair of houses north of the hotspot town of Fallujah, hospital officials and witnesses said.
Witnesses said US tanks surrounded the village and troops opened up with machinegun fire before helicopters launched missiles. They reported seeing helicopters circling above and hearing the roar of warplanes.
Dr. Ayman Abdel Kader al-Ani of the Fallujah Hospital, said all six victims were members of the same family in the town of al-Jisr, two kilometers north of the hospital.
Zidan al-Jumaili and Ibrahim al-Jumaili, both residents of al-Jisr and relatives of the victims, said the US forces encircled the village about 1:30 a.m. and opened fire a half hour later.
