Two US troops have been killed and a third one wounded when Iraqi fighters launched an attack, using rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) against a US military vehicle, the British Broadcasting Corporation ‏(BBC) reported on Sunday. It quoted eyewitnesses as saying that an ambush was set for US ‏military vehicles crossing in an open place on the high way near the southern ‏entrance of Baghdad in Al-Dourah area.‏ Sources at the Iraqi police said two US soldiers were killed and the ‏third was admitted to hospital.‏ Following the attack, US forces carried out a wide-scale search operation, using helicopters.‏ Elsewhere, Iraqi fighters attacked a U.S. military patrol in northern Iraq on Sunday, killing one soldier and wounding two, the U.S. military said. A bomb also was detonated on a railway, derailing half the carriages on a freight train but causing no injuries. Resistance fighters set off a roadside bomb as an American convoy passed through the center of Mosul, some 300 kilometers north of Baghdad, at around midday, Master Sgt. Kelly Tyler said, according to The AP. A witness said Iraqi policemen rushed out of a police station some 300 meters from the site of the blast and cordoned off the area until U.S. troops arrived. Further south, near the town of Samarra, an explosive device on Saturday evening derailed eight of 20 carriages on a train heading from Baghdad to Mosul, said Abdel-Nasser Abdel-Rahman, a railway official. No injuries were reported, he said. Train service between the capital and Mosul will be disrupted for five days, Abdel-Rahman said.
