Palestinian activists freed three foreign church volunteers early Saturday, several hours after they had been abducted in the West Bank city of Nablus late Friday, Palestinian security sources said. Unidentified armed men took the three - an American, a Briton and an Irishman - who have been working on an academic project at a Nablus university, as they returned to a house where they have been living, the sources said. Several foreign women accompanying the men were allowed to go free. Officials said the hostages apparently were taken to the Balata refugee camp near Nablus. "We are safe and doing well," a 22-year-old American who identified himself only as Phil said after he was freed. Also early Saturday, Palestinians set fire to a government building in the West Bank town of Jenin in anger at the mayor's refusal to meet their demands, sources said. A spokesman for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades said the act was a response to the appointment of Qaddura Musa as governor. Arafat had appointed Musa on Tuesday.
