How to Quit Smoking in Ramadan - II

- You will develop an inner urge to start smoking again, so remember the Saying of Allah The Almighty (which means): {Indeed, those who fear Allah - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight.} [Quran 7: 201] Besides, do not forget the Saying of Allah The Almighty (which means):{And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing. } [Quran 7: 201]

- Visit the dentist and ask him to remove all the sediments from your teeth so that you may get rid of its effects and its bad smell. Start using the Siwaak, toothbrush and toothpaste. Remember the Hadeeth that was narrated Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, and reported by Imaam Al-Bukhari may Allah have mercy upon him in which the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) said:“Siwaak is purifying for the mouth and pleasing to the Lord.”

- Remember that you are in the month of fasting and this entails that you should renounce all bad deeds, and surely smoking is a harmful act that should be renounced. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil.} [Quran 7: 157]

- Know that most of the setbacks occur during the first three months after giving up smoking. You have to be ready to confront all the triggers that drive you to smoking such as worry, tension, anxiety and peer pressure. Try to find reasonable and legitimate methods because smoking does not help the mind solve any problem; and remember that whoever fears Allah The Almighty, He will make a way out.

- You should not associate smoking with relaxation because research and studies have affirmed the opposite.

- Remember that the strong determination and will that develop by fasting and abstaining from desires and things that can break the fast are a great help in the process of giving up smoking and reducing the withdrawal symptoms of smoking. So, seek the help of patience and prayers and do not miss this chance in Ramadan.

- After you give up smoking, you may suffer from sleeping disorders, exhaustion, tension, boredom, dryness of the mouth and so on. These are natural symptoms in the beginning because the body is still addicted to the nicotine. Make sure you get plenty of rest and do not exhaust yourself during this period. Abstain from drinking coffee, tea and caffeinated drinks after breakfast. Try relaxation exercises and cultivate new habits to reduce stress such as taking a warm shower before sleeping. Seek the advice of a doctor if necessary and seek the help of anything that can strengthen you such as your good relationship with Allah The Almighty, piety, worship, family support and strong will.

- Avoid places frequented by smokers and remember the Hadeeth in which An-Nu’maan Ibn Al-Basheer, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever avoids doubtful matters, that will be better for his religious commitment and his honor.”   [Muslim]

- If you are one of those who think that smoking is lawful, then why do you not mention the Name of Allah The Almighty before starting each cigarette like we do with any other drink that Allah The Almighty made lawful?

- If you are one of those who think that smoking is lawful, then why do you not praise Allah The Almighty after finishing each cigarette like we do with any other drink that Allah The Almighty made lawful?

- If you are one of those who think that the cigarette is a blessing, then why do you always put it under your shoes after finishing it?

- If you see that the cigarette is something normal, then why do you not smoke it in front of your parents or your superiors at work?

- If you see that the cigarette is a private pleasure, then why do you not teach your children to smoke or recommend it to them?

- Make up your mind sincerely and be certain that Allah The Almighty will help you.
