When Allahu-Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) is repeated on the morning of ‘Eed day and the Masjids (Mosques) resound with Laa ilaaha illaa Allah (there is no God but Allah); when tears fall due to sadness at the departure of the beloved month of Ramadan, the month of forgiveness and salvation from Hell, the month of goodness, patience, generosity and blessing, Allah, the Ever Merciful and Generous, gives us the gift of ‘Eed. The days of ‘Eed are days of joy and happiness and breezes of goodness that engulf all family members, including the spouses.

On this day, the spouses' souls rise to a sublime level: their selves are reconciled and their hearts meet. Therefore, we see the spirit of happiness fluttering at home, and affection, tolerance, love and fun are felt in all its corners. As such, the purpose of ‘Eed is achieved in the true sense.

Conversely, for some people, ‘Eed could be the spark to ignite the fire of dispute which breaks out, particularly in the morning, because there is not enough time and focus is lost when the family members are preparing themselves to go out. As such, people are charged with tension and the joy of ‘Eed is turned into dispute so that they go to their relatives with frowning faces and feeling depressed.

The joy of ‘Eed flutters over the happy home

-         The spouses should thank Allah The Almighty for His favors and bounty. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Say, "In the bounty of Allah and in His Mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate."} [Quran 10: 58]

-         They should repeat Takbeer and Tahleel (saying: "Allahu-Akbar" and "Laa Ilaaha Illaa Allah") during the days of ‘Eed, in compliance with the Sunnah of the Prophet, .

-         They should supplicate to Allah The Almighty from the bottom of their hearts to accept their fasting, voluntary night prayers and sincere good deeds and to grant them many more Ramadans.

-         They should supplicate to Allah The Almighty to gather them in His Paradise and the abode of His Mercy.

-         They should rise above trifling matters and everything that would make their marital life unhappy. Allah The Almighty legislated ‘Eed for joy and fun, not sadness and dissention.

Steps for a happier ‘Eed

To make ‘Eed happier and more pleasant, these are some steps that the wife should take:

Preparations before ‘Eed

-         Prepare what you and your family need for going out two days before ‘Eed day. You should prepare your clothes and those of your husband and children as well as any other necessary items and put them in appropriate and convenient places.

-         Tidy up your house prior to ‘Eed day to decrease the time you need in doing so before going out on that day.

-         Make sure that you and your husband go to bed early on the night before ‘Eed as much as possible; so that you can wake up early, active and in high spirits.

-         After performing the Fajr prayer, you should intensify asking for forgiveness and not forget the Athkaar (mentionings and remembrances or Allah) of the morning, as well as the Takbeer and Tahleel. You should raise your voice so that the other members of your family feel the beautiful atmosphere of ‘Eed.

-         Prepare dates so that your husband and children can eat them before going out for the ‘Eed prayer, in compliance with the Sunnah of the Prophet, . Also, you should prepare a dish of sweets, milk or tea, according to your choice.

Preparations on the morning of ‘Eed

-         Wake your husband and children up and head to the Masjid repeating Takbeer and Tahmeed (saying “Al-hamdulillaah”). Attend the ‘Eed congregational prayer and listen to the Khutbah (sermon).
-         The couple then should visit their families, relatives and loved ones to spend a wonderful time with them.
-         Prepare the ‘Eed greeting cards on which you can write lines expressing joy and thankfulness for your husband for his generosity and good deeds.
-         Spend the second day of ‘Eed with your husband and children on a trip that would please all the family members. Do not forget to prepare some surprises, competitions and tasty food.
-          Feel joy and happiness and inspire your husband with the same feelings so that they are reflected in your deeds and behavior. Overlook anything that could anger you. Whenever signs of anger appear, remind yourself and your husband that it is a day of ‘Eed which should be enjoyed and which could change life for the better.
