You are not sinful if your mother does not embrace Islam Fatwa No: 107633
- Fatwa Date:5-5-2008
Salam. I have an interesting question. In one of the fatwas I read, it says that no soul will bear another person's [soul] burden or things he/she did wrong. So the reason why I don't understand this is because my mom is a christian and I wrote about it and you stated that I am responsible for my mom becoming a muslim, although I must say, I really want her to be muslim and Allah only knows how much I want that and if she doesn't want to become a muslim, why then will I get punished or even if my mom didn't want to hear this subject, why then would I be punished? Why then would this be a burden for me even though I pray that Allah make her a muslim and that Allah not punish me. Jazak'allah khair
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
What is meant by being responsible about your mother is that you are required to guide her to the truth according to your ability; therefore, if you do your best in calling her to Islam, then you will not be sinful if she does not respond because you would have done what you are required to do.
It is only Allaah Who can guide the hearts to Islam. Allaah Says addressing His Prophet (what means): {Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allaah guides whom He wills.}[Quran 28:56]
Allaah Knows best.
