Woman going out of her home for Da`wah Fatwa No: 124817
- Fatwa Date:12-7-2009
As salamualaykum, Could you please answer my question related to Dawah (calling non-muslims towards Islam). My question is: Is it obligatory on Muslim women to go out of their home for dawah purpose. Can you please explain in detail how muslim women should do dawah (please answer w.r.t married women as well as unmarried women). Please answer this in brief. JazakAllah. May Allah swt reward you all. Ameen.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
A woman is not religiously obliged to go out of her house to call people to Allaah The Almighty, since she is, in principle, ordered to stay at home. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And abide in your houses.}[Quran 33:33] However, the Muslim woman is required to call to Allaah The Almighty according to her own capacity. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.}[Quran 9:71] For further information, refer to Fatwa 85108.
Nevertheless, there would be no blame on the woman to go out of her house to give Da‘wah if she met the religious requirements to do so, such as abiding by the Islamic dress and the like.
A Muslim woman should give Da‘wah among women, just as Muslim men should give Da‘wah among men to avoid temptation. For further information, see Fatwa 88114.
Allaah Knows best.
