Stepping on an unreligious Arabic text
Fatwa No: 126066

Question

As salamu aleykum,
Is there any karahaat on stepping with the feet on a piece of unreligious arabic text, or simply a sheet with the arabic alphabet on it ?
Was salaam

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is known that Arabic is the language of the Quran, therefore it should be honored and a Muslim should not place his foot intentionally on a piece of paper containing Arabic letters.

A Muslim would not be sinful if he intentionally places his foot on it while it contains neither Quranic verses, nor Prophetic Ahaadeeth, nor names of the Prophets and Messengers, may Allaah exalt their mention, along with phrases indicating that the intended name is that of the Messenger himself, like, for instance, "Muhammad the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam” or “‘Eesa (Jesus) ", or the like. However, it is better not to do that intentionally.

Allaah Knows best.
