He is in dire need to study in a mixed college

Question

AsalamoAlikum Respected brothers/sisters I have a very critical question with concern my education. I am in the final year of my graduation Alhamdulilah. Last year I left the college and tried to manage the course on my own. However, due to its difficulty level I realised that its very difficult for me to manage it without the help of an institue(e.g. taking proper classes on time). The college I want to join is a mixed college. I know its not allowed in Islam to have mixed college but there are no Islamic eduaction institues here which can provide me such classes. I want to complete this degree properly on time and in future want to use it for my religion. I believe its very important for me to complete this education so that I can face the society much more strongly with my adherence to deen. In the class when a male is teaching I can just sit on one side with males without any socialising with females. However, there might be subject course or courses taught by females. I am sure that its not allowed to attend classes where females are teaching without observing hudood of Allah. All I need to know is that just in my particular case only for this final year can I take classes from this college. I tried to do the courses on my own last year but it gets very difficult for me to handle. I can also try to present the true picture of Islam inshallah in college through my behaviour to the best of my abilities. The majority of people in the college are Muslims but they just do not observe hudood of Allah properly. I might become a source of reminder to them inshallah. I again would like to mention that this eduaction is very benificial for my practising of deen in the long run. In present times the majority of Universities and colleges are mixed. I do not agree with this system but I need this education. I request brothers/sisters to not to refer me to answer to similar questions. I would be grateful for the answer. May Allah reward you all.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

It should be mentioned that women are the most harmful affliction to men as reported in an authentic Hadeeth. However, your intention to show the real image of Islam and be a reason for reminding people of Allaah are noble objectives, but these are not a sound reason for leading a person to afflictions because it is better to be safe than sorry.

In any case, since you are in need of this study, it is permissible for you to complete it and attend lectures and so forth, but you should abide by the Sharee’ah requirements and the morals of Islam in dealing with non-Mahram women, like lowering the gaze, speaking with them only at times of necessity, avoiding being in forbidden seclusion with them, and so forth. Also, you should be concerned with accompanying the pious and holding fast to the rope of Allaah in order to be safe from afflictions.

Allaah Knows best.
