Her daughter’s father-in-law caused his son to turn away from her daughter
Fatwa No: 158801

Question

I am extremely worried about my daughter, who is married with 4 children. Only couple of months after her marriage her husband turned his back on her and would give excuse of being tired. Hers is a love marriage which the boys family did not want. It is only now after 10 yrs we understand that her father in law who is very religious says tahajjud reads doa for turning QALB (heart)and practises mind control. He is hurting her a lot, by making his son a puppet and keeping her away physically from her legal wedded husband. He says nothing -- does everything in the tahajjud & other prayers. The result is his son has totally turned away from my daughter. Please, Please tell me an effective prayer as i do not want to go to anyone who will tell me to do something which will be a sin. He also has a lot of mind control powers.

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

We are not aware of any specific supplication for your daughter’s situation but it is not a condition that the supplication be narrated from the Prophet ; rather, it is acceptable for a person to supplicate with any lawful supplication that he knows or chooses and that suits his situation.

Besides, it is not permissible for you to accuse your daughter’s father-in-law of trying to spoil the marital relationship between your daughter and her husband because suspicion is a clear sin. In principle, a Muslim is innocent until proven otherwise. Allaah Says (what means): {O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin.}[Quran 49:12]

In addition to this, if that man is righteous, it is not possible that he would do such things that you mentioned, and even if he supplicates with what you mentioned, his supplication will not be answered, Allaah willing, as this is supplicating with sin. Among the conditions for a supplication to be answered, is that it should not be a supplication that involves sin. For more benefit on the conditions and etiquettes of supplication, please refer to Fataawa 83421 and 88296.

On the other hand, his son turning away from his wife who is your daughter, may be due to other reasons (either normal or abnormal); we mean that there might be magic, evil eye and the like. So, if it is predominantly thought that this is the reason, then he and his wife should be advised to perform Ruqyah; for more benefit on Ruqyah, please refer to Fataawa 88705 and 85500.

Finally, it should be noted that it is not permissible under any circumstances to resort to magicians. Also, the expression ‘he has much a lot of mind control powers…’ if you mean by it that this man knows what is in other people’s minds, then this is not correct and this is a very serious statement as it implies that he knows the unseen while it is only Allaah who knows the unseen. Allaah Says (what means): {Say, “None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allaah, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.”}[Quran 27:65]

If a creature does not know the unseen, then how can he control it? For more benefit on the ruling of going to sorcerers and soothsayers, please refer to Fataawa 17266 and 87538.

Allaah Knows best.
