Sins whose punishment is hastened in this world Fatwa No: 164173
- Fatwa Date:25-9-2011
what are the sins that Allah swt give the punishment faster while the man still alive?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
It is out of Allaah's mercy toward His servants that He does not hasten for them the punishment of their sins in this world, nor impose blame on them because of those sins, otherwise, they would be ruined; He The Almighty Says (what means): {And if Allaah were to impose blame on the people for their wrongdoing, He would not have left upon the earth any creature, but He defers them for a specified term.}[Quran 16:61]
But He The Almighty may seize with punishment some of His servants for some of the evil they have earned, who, consequently, would receive disasters and prompt punishments. In confirmation of that, He The Almighty Says (what means):
• {And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned.}[Quran 42:30]
• {Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]}[Quran 30:41]
However, Allaah The Almighty has not clarified that He may hasten for the people the punishment of a particular sin apart from others; as the matter depends on the Will of Allaah The Almighty. But the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that transgression and cutting ties of kinship are the most deserving sins of having its punishment hastened in this world. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Bakrah that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “There is no sin more deserving of having its punishment hastened in this world, in addition to what is reserved in the Hereafter for the one who does it, than transgression and cutting ties of kinship.” [Abu Daawood and others - Al-Albaani graded it Saheeh (sound)]
Anyway, one must beware of all sins, whether they are minor or major, and must fear the punishment of Allaah, be it immediate or deferred.
Allaah Knows best.
