Question about verse 2:253 and who it is to whom Allaah spoke Fatwa No: 173493
- Fatwa Date:19-2-2012
with which ONE apostle did Allah speak to, as mentioned in 2.253,
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {…Among them were those to whom Allaah spoke.} [Quran 2:253] Allaah The Almighty means (by this) Moosa (Moses) as He spoke to him directly; Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And Allaah spoke to Moses with [direct] speech.} [Quran 4:164]
Allaah The Almighty also spoke directly to our Prophet Muhammad on the night of his ascension to the heavens [the night of Al-Israa’ and Al-Mi’raaj].
Aadam was also a prophet who was spoken to by Allaah The Almighty as mentioned in a Hadeeth (narration).
Ibn Katheer said (while interpreting the verse), “{…Among them were those to whom Allaah spoke}, means Moosa and Muhammad . Aadam was also spoken to by Allaah as in the Hadeeth reported by Ibn Hibbaan and which was narrated by Abu Tharr .”
Allaah Knows best.
