It is impermissible to think of an image of Allaah Fatwa No: 216019
- Fatwa Date:22-8-2013
I am a visual thinker and as a child I had this image of God in my head. I know that Allah has no image. Did I commit to some kind of shirk? Please help me. I'm terribly depressed. How do I get this image out of my head?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger. We have previously clarified in the Fatwa 39560 that it is not permissible to think of the Essence of Allaah The Almighty or to have an image of Him.
The best treatment for the one who finds something like that is to stop thinking about it. Also, one should seek refuge with Allaah The Almighty from the accursed Satan and say: "There is none worthy of worship except Allaah. I believe in Allaah."
However, there is no blame on a child, who has not yet reached puberty, in what he does because the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The pen has been lifted from three: from one who is sleeping until he wakes up, from a child until he reaches the age of puberty, and from one who has lost his mind until he comes back to his senses.” [Abu Daawood and At-Tirmithi]
