Question

In the name of Allah the all knowing, Aslam o alaykum wa rahmatullhi wa barakato. I have a serioous question. ..a brother has said and believed in a statement that the prophet ISA A.S has died or been taken alive and WILL NOT RETURN. HE HAS BEEN ON WEBSITES WHO ARE HOSTED BY QADIANIS AND HADITH REJECTORS. By saying this and believing that the prophet ISA A.S. will NOT RETURN, HAS HE BECOME A KAFIR (NON MUSLIM) In the uk he has been declared a kafir. Please could you provide evidence from quran and hadith and be kind enough to issue a ruling as to whether denying that ISA A.S. WILL RETURN MAKES ONE A KAFIR OR NOT. Jazak Allah

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger.

The descent of ‘Eesa (Jesus) in the last times is affirmed in the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet and we have mentioned a number of texts affirming this in Fataawa 88216 and 87745. So, it is not permissible for anyone to deny that.

If a person denies that out of ignorance or misinterpretation, it is not ruled that he has left the fold of Islam until the evidence is established against him and the misconception is clarified to him, because whoever is a Muslim with certainty does not become an unbeliever except after certainty as clarified in Fataawa 8106 - 87963.

Shaykh Al-Albaani said: “You should know that it is an obligation to believe in all things mentioned in this Hadeeth, like the emergence of the Mahdi, and the descent of ‘Eesa, as that has been affirmed in the Quran and the Sunnah. However, there is no explicit text to support that [whoever rejects those things has left the fold of Islam]. It is for this reason that I mentioned the Hadeeth and clarified that it is evidently fabricated. ... Declaring someone a non-Muslim is not something trivial. Indeed, whoever denies what is unmistakably affirmed in Islam after the evidence is established against him, he is an unbeliever in the most literal terms. But if someone denies something affirmed because of [purportedly] insufficient evidence or some ambiguity in meaning, then he is in error, but he does not leave Islam and is not an apostate. The same applies to someone who rejects an authentic Hadeeth classified as such by the scholars.” [End of quote]

The wording of the fabricated Hadeeth the Shaykh was referring to is as follows: “Whoever denies the emergence of the Mahdi, he has indeed disbelieved in what was sent down to Muhammad; and whoever denies the descent of ‘Eesa, the son of Mary, he has indeed disbelieved; and the one who denies the emergence of the Dajjaal [antichrist], he has indeed disbelieved; and whoever did not believe in the Foreordainment, whether good or bad, he has indeed disbelieved, as Jibreel [angel Gabriel] informed me that Allaah, The Almighty, Says: ‘whoever does not believe in the Divine Decree, whether good or bad, let him take a lord other than Me.’” Al-Albaani said in As-Silsilah Adh-Dha‘eefah wal-Mawdhoo‘ah: This Hadeeth is fabricated. It was narrated by Abu Bakr Al-Kalaabaathi in Miftaah Ma’aani Al-Athaar.

Therefore, a Muslim has to be very careful when declaring someone an unbeliever, and he should protect his Muslim brother from committing what would be a cause of unbelief; he should advise him and be merciful towards him and not hasten to declare him an unbeliever. Qataadah said: “Meet a Muslim with faithfulness [and advice] not treachery.”

Finally, it is appropriate that you refer to Fataawa 81427 and 88413 which are about the misguidance of the Qaadiaani sect.

Allaah Knows best.
