The meaning of “I testify that Muhammad is the slave of Allaah and His Messenger” Fatwa No: 28576
- Fatwa Date:26-1-2011
What does “slave of Allaah” mean in the Declaration of Faith of the Muslims: “I testify that none is truly worthy of worship but Allaah and that Muhammad is the slave of Allaah and His Messenger”?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The term “slave of Allaah” in the statement “I testify that none is truly worthy of worship but Allaah and that Muhammad is the slave of Allaah and His Messenger” means that Prophet Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Abd Al-Muttalib, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is the Messenger of Allaah and His slave who does not share with Allaah the Almighty any of His characteristics of Lordship and Divinity, or any other characteristic.
Allaah Knows best.
