Question

Did all Prophets receive Prophethood in Ramadan, or did all Messengers receive revelation in Ramadan?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that the month of Ramadhaan is a great month which Allah singled out for the revelation of His Noble Book; Allah says (what means): {The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.} [Quran 2:185]

The beginning of the revelation to our Prophet Muhammad was in the month of Ramadhaan. Some heavenly books were also revealed in the month of Ramadhaan, such as the Scriptures of Ibraaheem (Abraham), the Bible, and the Psalms.

Ibn Katheer said in Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah, “The well-known opinion is that the Prophet (Muhammad) received prophethood in the month of Ramadhaan, as was stated by ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr, Muhammad ibn Is-haaq, and others.

Lataa-if Al-Ma’aarif by Ibn Rajab reads:

It was already stated that 'Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr said that the revelation and the Quran first came down to him (Prophet Muhammad ) in the month of Ramadhaan. In the Musnad, it was reported that Waathilah ibn al-Asqa’ narrated that the Prophet said, ‘The Scriptures of Ibraaheem were sent down in the first night of the month of Ramadhaan, the Torah was sent down on the sixth day of Ramadhaan, the Injeel (Bible) was sent down on the thirteenth day of Ramadhaan, and the Quran was sent down on the twenty-fourth of Ramadhaan.”

The above mentioned hadeeth by Waathilah ibn al-Asqa’ was classified by Shaykh Al-Albaani as hasan (good) in As-Silsilah As-Saheehah.

As regards when all the Prophets were sent and whether all the Messengers were sent in Ramadhaan, then this is something that we have not come across (in our resource books).

Allah knows best.
