This expression is not a metaphor for divorce Fatwa No: 347971
- Fatwa Date:27-3-2017
Assalaamu alaykum, Shaykh. I apologise for continuously messaging you, but I am deeply suffering from satanic whisperings, and it is really destroying my life. I asked a question but was referred to another fatwa. The question was the following:
Salaam. A married couple are not in an argument, and the husband asks the wife, "Can you imagine your life without me?" Is that statement regarded as a metaphor of divorce? This was asked during a normal conversation without an argument.
Please, could you answer the question directly, Shaykh, because after reading the fatwa, I still do not know whether it is a metaphor of divorce or not. I really need your help.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
This expression which the husband said to his wife is not a metaphor of divorce. Therefore, it does not lead to divorce regardless of whether he intended divorce with it.
So, you must repel Waswaas (obsessive whisperings) and not pay any attention to it and seek refuge in Allah as much as you can.
Allah knows best.
