Repenting From Watching Forbidden Videos
Fatwa No: 373612

Question

If someone(male/female) watches & listens forbidden videos on YouTube , then tawba from heart, will they be forgiven by Allaah even if their "views" are recorded on YouTube & seen/witnessed by others? Is it enough, if someone do tawba from heart ,seek forgiveness & stop watching & viewing those ? Or should they also remove those "counted youtube view" along with these ,otherwise there is no hope of forgiveness? If someone doesn't find a way to remove those "view" or finds way but it is tough cause they watch too many videos what they will do? Is it enough only to stop watching videos?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

If this person sincerely repents from watching these forbidden videos, then it is hoped that his repentance will be accepted and that his sins will be forgiven. Allah Says (what means): {But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.} [Quran 20:82]

Also, the Prophet said: “Whoever repents (sincerely) Allah will accept his repentance.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

We have already stated the conditions of repentance in Fatwa 86527, so please refer to it.

As for the "counted YouTube view", if he can remove it, then he/she should do so.

Allah knows best.
