Severity of The Day of Judgment Is Exclusive To Disbelievers Fatwa No: 414682
- Fatwa Date:16-3-2020
Will The Day Of Judgement Be Like 50,000 Years Only For Disbelievers Or For Both Believers And Disbelievers Because I Have Read A Hadith That "Reckoning Of The Judgement Day For The Believers Will Be Like The Time Between Zuhr And Asr
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The prolonged duration and severity of the Day of Judgment is exclusive to the disbelievers. This is evidenced by the two following verses reading (what means):
· {The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.} [Quran 25:24]
· {That Day will be a difficult day For the disbelievers – not easy.} [Quran 74:9-10]
The well-versed scholar Al-Ameen Ash-Shanqeeti said: “In our book Daf‘ Eehaam Al-Idhtiraab ‘an Aayaat Al-Kitaab, in relation to Soorat Al-Furqaan, we also commented on the verse reading (what means): {The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place,} [Quran 25:24] what can be briefly summarized as follows: this verse indicates that the reckoning will be completed within half a day. This is because the reference to ‘resting’ or ‘resting place’ (the Arabic term used in the verse is Maqeela, lit. Noon nap or place for noon nap) indicates the midday nap to escape the noon heat. Those who held that the reckoning will be completed in half a day included Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn Mas‘ood, ‘Ikrimah, and Ibn Jubayr, relying on the indication of this verse, as narrated on their authority by Ibn Katheer and others. Tafseer Al-Jalaalayn also states: ‘It is deduced from the verse that the reckoning will be completed in half a day, as stated in a previously-mentioned Hadeeth. However, Allah, The Exalted, stated that the duration of the Day of Judgment will be equal to fifty thousand years; He Says (what means): {…during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.} [Quran 70:4] This is a reference to the Day of Judgment, and there is no disagreement among scholars in this regard. The preponderant view is that the Day of Judgment will be made long for the disbelievers and short for the believers, as indicated by the verse that reads (what means): {True sovereignty, that Day, is for the Most Merciful. And it will be upon the disbelievers a difficult Day.} [Quran 25:26] Singling out the disbelievers with the difficulty of that day indicates that it will be otherwise for the believers. Allah, The Exalted, Says (what means): {That Day will be a difficult day For the disbelievers – not easy.} [Quran 74:9-10] This essentially indicates that it will be easy for the believers, as also indicated by the verse (which means): {Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."} [Quran 54:8]'” [End of Quote]
Allah Knows best.
