Modesty and Some Other Issues Fatwa No: 449152
- Fatwa Date:19-10-2021
Assalamualikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu. I have read your article on islamweb on modesty(hayaa). Can you please give examples of natural modesty? Immortality is common in America. A person writes "First, many people would not regard drug use, porn production, divorce, out of wedlock kids, or prostitution "immoral" at all. ...". What I mean by examples is that the ability of natural modesty to identify that a certain deed is a bad deed i.e the list of bad deeds that can be identified stemming from natural modesty. Can immodesty lead to unreasonable mass killings because of the person becoming indifferent to it? Does Athesim found in western countries stem from immodesty? Please answer the atheism part specifically. Jazakallahukhair.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The question is not clear. The Fatwa is intended to answer the Islamic rulings that concern the Muslims in their acts of worship and in their dealings, as for intellectual discussions and criticism of the conditions of societies, then this is not the field of the Fatwa.
In any case, examples of natural modesty are a well-known phenomenon, and the examples that you mentioned (drug abuse, pornography production, children outside marriage, or prostitution) are among the things that all the people from different religions agree that these are evil and disgusting things and that they contradict modesty – except for the perverted ones who may disagree on this.
As for your saying: “Can immodesty lead to unreasonable mass killings because of the person becoming indifferent to it?”, then this is not an Islamic issue.
As for your saying: “Does Atheism found in western countries stem from immodesty?”, then the Noble Quran, in many instances, clarifies that deviation from the Sharee’ah and turning away from it, injustice and immorality, are causes for an increase in misguidance, injustice, and deprivation from guidance; Allah Says (what means):
• {And when they deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.} [Quran 61:5]
• {And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient.} [Quran 2:26]
• {And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers.} [Quran 14:27]
Therefore, turning away from the Sharee’ah and committing immorality are a cause for disbelief and atheism.
Allah Knows best.
