Dealing with those who belittle committed Muslims
Fatwa No: 68221

Question

How do we deal with those who mock religiously-committed people and anyone who works in the field of Da‘wa?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

One should deal with such people wisely, with good instruction, clarifying the truth for them and warning them against such behavior which may lead to disbelief. If this proves to be of no avail, one should apply the instructions of Allaah in this regard; Allaah Says (what means):

·       {And turn away from the ignorant.}[Quran 7:199]

·       {And when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity}[Quran 25:72]

The reason they behave that way might be because they feel religiously inferior. They may not like to see anyone more religiously committed than them, so they mock him hoping that people would regard him with contempt and not gather around him. Such people have no tendency to refine their behavior, imitate righteous people or compete with them in their religious commitment. The only thing left for them is the approach of ridicule and sarcasm.

Allaah Knows best.
