Very Nervous and Lacks Patience
Fatwa No: 81882

Question

I am 19 years old. I am very nervous and I do not know how to be patient.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

It is assured that the best way is to be endowed with patience, to be deliberate and to give everything its right without exaggeration or neglect. The beloved Prophet Muhammad said: “Whosoever accustoms himself to be patient, Allah will grant him patience.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

For that reason, Allah will grant the patient the best of reward. Allah Says (what means): {Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allah is spacious. Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.".} [Quran 39:10]

In addition to that, you are to be clement and set things right. Know that trying to be mild brings mildness and clemency. The beloved Prophet said: “Knowledge is acquired by seeking it, and forbearance is gained by accustoming oneself to have forbearance; whoever seeks goodness, he will be enabled to do so, and whoever tries to avoid evil, he will be enabled to avoid it.” [Al-Bukhari]

So, when you feel nervous, you should seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan and perform ablution instantly. The beloved Prophet Muhammad said: “Anger comes from the devil and the devil was created from fire, and fire is distinguished by water. So, if any of you gets angry, he should perform ablution.” [Ahmad and Abu Daawood]

At last, we do ask Allah, the Great and Almighty, to grant you success, patience, and forbearance.

Allah knows best.
