Non-Saudi Citizen Wants to Marry Saudi Widow with Children Fatwa No: 83668
- Fatwa Date:20-1-2002
This is a personal problem, however the verdict may be useful for many with similar matter. I am a 31 years old Arab and Muslim, non-Saudi citizen living and working in KSA. Through my family 4 years ago I met a young 28 year old Saudi widow with three children (two girls and one boy). Kindly reply whether:1) Is there any objection from a religious point of view if I want to propose to the girl's family for marriage knowing that the women agrees but is afraid of discussing this matter with her family?2) If there is any social obstacle against such a marriage? 3) Is there any religious objection regarding me living after marriage in the same house as a one family with the woman and her children?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Islam makes no distinction between Muslims on the basis of class, or color, or nationality. Thus, any Muslim man can propose to any Muslim girl, since there is no objection in the Sharee’ah about this.
However, if social problems may occur due to such an engagement, then it is better to avoid such action to maintain that girl's honor and dignity in and outside her home.
In addition, if you marry the above-named woman according to the Sharee’ah conditions, then there is be no harm if you live with her in her family's home as long as there is full consent.
Allah knows best.
