Illness and dreams Fatwa No: 84175
- Fatwa Date:15-5-2002
I want to get a Fatwa and some advice, I will tell you my situation. My sister has stomach cancer and she is hoping that she will be healed from her sickness. Since she had the illness she dreamed of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) three times. In the first dream Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) was showing her the sky, stars and moon.In the second dream she saw Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) with Umar and Abu Bakr . There was no communication or interaction with them; she just saw them.In the third dream, she just saw Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam). She has a book of (Ibn Sireen) to interpret her dreams and she did that, but she still like to ask you for your own opinions on the sickness and dreams.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
We ask Allah to grant your sister instant recovery; advise her to be patient and seek Allah's reward for that. Ayisha (Radiya Allahu Anha) reported that Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Allah, The Great and Almighty, will take all calamities that befall a Muslim as an expiation (to his/her misdeeds) even if one is pierced with a thorn" . [Reported by Imams Bukhari and Muslim].
Abu Hurairah reported that Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Allah, The Great and Almighty, will take all that befalls a Muslim of chronic disease, fatigue, infirmity, grief or even anxiety as an expiation to his/her misdeeds" . [Muslim]
Thus, your sister has to continue taking all means of recovery that are prescribed by doctors of medicine. Then, she has to take al-Ruqyah al-Shariyah (Recitations of Qur'an and supplication of Sunnah), seek Allah's help faithfully and to supplicate to Him humbly, choosing the favorite times of answering Du'a such as at last third part of a night, rainfall, after obligatory prayers, etc…
As for your dream, we ask Allah to be good, but we apologize for not giving an explanation since we have no a scholar who can do that. So, we ask you to ask the same question to some devout one who is competent in such matters.
Allah knows best.
