Life in Paradise Fatwa No: 85178
- Fatwa Date:23-11-2002
Will one know or live with his parents in the afterlife? Will he remember them in Paradise? And if a Muslim did not marry, in order to fulfill his duties to his parents, who will he live with in Jannah?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
There is proof in the Quran that people in this life will recognize each other in Paradise. The son recognizes his father and the brother recognizes his brother. Allah Says (what means):
• {On the Day a man will flee from his brother. And his mother and his father. And his wife and his children.} [Quran 80: 34-36]
• {O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all.} [Quran 31: 33].
This is during the period of accounting. But when they are saved from Hellfire, the children who followed their fathers in good deeds will be with them even if their reward is less. Allah Says (what means): {And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds.} [Quran 52: 21]
Ibn Katheer said: “If the children follow their Muslim parents in righteousness, they join them in the same rank even if their (the children's) deeds are less than their parents’. This is to give their parents the satisfaction of seeing them. To conclude, people in Paradise recognize each other if they had a relation in this life.”
As for the dwelling in Paradise, Muslim reported that the Prophet said: “The lowest in station among the inhabitants of Paradise will be he who looks at his gardens, his wives, his bliss, his servants, and his couches stretching a thousand years' journey.”
This Hadeeth is enough evidence that Paradise dwellers have spouses even if they did not marry during their lifetime.
Allah knows best.
