Belief in the Day of Judgement Fatwa No: 85334
- Fatwa Date:17-12-2002
Can you explain to me the Muslim faith in the Day of Judgement?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Belief in the Day of Judgement is an obligation on all Muslims.
Allah Says (what means): {O you who have believed, believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Book that He sent down upon His Messenger and the Scripture which He sent down before. And whoever disbelieves in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day has certainly gone far astray.} [Quran 4:136]
It is one of the six pillars of Eaman (faith). Al-Bukhari reported that the Prophet said: “Faith is to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Messengers, and the Meeting with Him, and to believe in the Resurrection.”
Believing in the Day of Judgement implies believing in the following matters:
1) Believing in death that it is the destiny of everybody and that the acts of living beings are known only by Allah and that no person knows where he will die.
2) Belief in the grave: belief in the questions, punishment and comfort that are incurred therein.
3) Belief in al-Barzakh, which is the life that is between this life and the Hereafter until Allah resurrects the beings.
4) Belief in the raising from the graves, resurrection and the gathering on the Day of Judgement.
5) Belief in the special great intercession of the Prophet Muhammad . He will plead with Allah to begin the Judgement among His servants. This is the great intercession. Also believing in the intercession of the Messengers, believers and Angels.
6) Belief in the Records of deeds that will be granted to all people and belief in the standing before Allah to settle the accounts of deeds.
7) Belief in the Scales of deeds to weigh the deeds and the records that contain all the details of the deeds of people.
8) Believing in the Pool of the Prophet in al-Mawqif of Muhammad where all people will be gathered for their account.
9) Believing in al-Sirat (the bridge) that would be set over Hellfire and all people will have to pass over it.
10) Believing in Paradise and Hellfire. They have already been created and that they exist now, and that they are eternal and will never perish.
11) Believing in the bridge between Hellfire and Paradise where the dwellers of Paradise will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done amongst them in this world.
Finally, we cannot give all details in this Fatwa since this section deals with legal rulings of the Sharee’ah. However, you may refer to the books written on this subject.
There are many books in Arabic language, some of which have been translated into English, such as "The Muslim's Belief" compiled by Shaykh Muhammad Salih al-'Uthaymeen ;
