Interpretation of dreams Fatwa No: 85913
- Fatwa Date:10-6-2003
I would like to ask 2 questions about the dreams. First, is there a Hadith about the dream of a believer and that when it becomes true, this is one of the sign of the approach of The Day of Judgement? Second: Shouldn't I tell anyone about the dream that I see while sleeping, I am already seeing things before they happen and I look for their Tafseer (interpretation) in $Ibn Seereen$$'s book and they really happen? Should I tell the good things only? Seeing these dreams? Is it a sign of good faith or not?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported from Abu Hurairah (Radiya Allahu Anhu) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "When the time (of the Last Day) comes closer almost no dream of a believer will be untrue. The believer's dream is a fraction of forty-six fractions of Prophethood…. So, if anyone sees (in his dream) something he does not like, he should not tell it to anyone…" . So, when you see something you do not like, keep it for yourself (as in the Hadith) and seek refuge with Allah from Satan and its insinuations and evil and if you see (in your dream) something you like do not tell it to anyone except to a person you like. As for interpreting dreams according to Ibn Sireen's interpretation, it is incorrect because the book that is widespread now among people is wrongly traced back to him. Ibn Sireen cannot have written such a book full of falsehood. But if you have a dream there is no objection to your telling it to one of the pious good interpreters in your country or interpret it yourself in a good way. On the other hand, seeing something in sleep then seeing it happen in reality is not an evidence of good faith. Allah knows best.
