Wants to help a boy become a Muslim Fatwa No: 87935
- Fatwa Date:23-6-2004
I'm an 11 year old girl. I want to know how to help a boy who wants to become a Muslim. Could you help me help him to become a Muslim? He wants to be a Muslim because another boy told him a little bit about Islam and he wants to be a Muslim. I hope you will answer soon.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
First and foremost we thank you for your enthusiasm in calling people to the religion of Allah and we ask Allah to enable you do what ever He loves and He is pleased with.
As regards the appropriate method of calling the young boy to Islam, it is by sending him books about Islam and tapes which are appropriate to his circumstances.
You may also contact an Islamic centre in your country and inform them about this boy; subsequently they would take care of inviting him to Islam. You can also talk to your Maharim about it, like your brother or father. In doing so, you will get the reward from Allah, InshaAllah.
You have to know, however, that a woman or a girl has limits that she should not transgress on the basis of Dawah or good intention. If she abides by the Islamic Shariah rulings, like Hijab, not being in seclusion with a man, not mixing with men, and not speaking in a soft voice and similar things that cause more harm than benefit; and despite all this, she is obliged by circumstances to meet the Kafir (non-Muslim) without looking for him or seeking to meet him, then there is no harm for her to call him to Islam.
Nasa'i reported that Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Abu Talhah asked the hand of Um Sulaim, may Allah be pleased with her, for marriage, and she told him: "O, I swear by Allah, a person like you should not be refused, but you are a Kafir (non-Muslim) and I am a Muslim. So, I can not marry you. If you embrace Islam then I consider that my dowry be your becoming Muslim and I would not ask you for anything else."
We call your attention to the fact that when calling non-Muslims; one should start by the most-important matter and move on to the next most important one in a step by step progressing. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) clarified this order when he sent Mu'adh Ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, to Yemen and told him: "Indeed you will come across the people of the Book, so the first thing to call them to, is to believe in the Oneness of Allah, if they acknowledge this fact inform them that Allah ordained them to perform five daily prayers. If they perform the prayers, then inform them that Allah commanded them to pay Zakah (alms-poor due), which should be taken from the rich and given to the poor, if they acknowledge that, take the Zakah from them, but do not choose from the best of their wealth" reported by Bukhari and Muslim.
If this person wants to become Muslim, he only has to utter the two declarations of faith, this is the method of embracing Islam, and so if he utters these two declarations he becomes a Muslim and has the same rights and duties like other Muslims.
Allah knows best.
