Question

What are the textual evidences to prove that Imaam should recite aloud in the first two Raka'h of Maghrib, Ishaa, and Fajr and remain silent in other prayers?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The jurists agree that it is permissible to read aloud in Fajr prayer, and the first two Rak'as of Maghrib and 'Ishaa' prayers and in Jumua' prayer while Thuhr and 'Asr prayers are all silent. This is what is known from the Sunnah of the Prophet and it is the best guidance. Ibn Qudaamah said in Al-Mughni: 'The principle in this matter is the way of the Prophet and this is confirmed by what was conveyed through the generations since the time of our Predecessors .'

Allaah knows best.
