Doubting his faith Fatwa No: 89398
- Fatwa Date:17-2-2005
Every time I've got doubt about my Eemaan. I thinking that maybe I am not a Muslim or that I am a Munafiq, Aghoodu Billah. And when I did something good I directly thinking maybe my Niyyah wasn't true. When I said to my friends we have to follow the Sunnah of Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, I've thoughts which says who are you how you can say it to others are you perfect. Why this thoughts coming to me every time.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger
.
First of all, you should know that Satan (the devil) is an enemy to mankind as he is keen to spoil his religion and divert him from obeying his Lord, and he tries to make him anxious.
So if you sincerely devote your actions and good deeds to Allaah, you should not take into consideration the whispers of the devil and you should seek refuge in Allaah from him. If you do your best to repel these whispers you will not be harmed; in this regard, please refer to Fataawa 84625 and 87166.
Nonetheless, a caller to Islam should have some characteristics, for instance he should be an example in what he enjoins people to do or forbid them from doing. Even if he is not doing his duty as he should, he still can do his duty of enjoining people to do good and forbidding them from doing evil.
Al-Hassan Al-Basri was told: “There is someone who does not enjoin good and forbid evil, and he says that he is scared to enjoin that which he himself does not act according to.” He replied: “And who among us does act according to all what he says? The devil hopes that every person thinks the same, and therefore no one would enjoin good or forbid evil.”
Moreover, the devil could overcome a person (by whispering to him) because of the latter being negligent in fulfilling his duties towards Allaah.
Therefore, if you find that you are negligent in obeying Allaah, you should repent, seek forgiveness from Him and do good deeds. If you do so, you will be protected from the devil, Allaah willing.
Allaah Knows best.
