Husband and wife distrust each other Fatwa No: 89534
- Fatwa Date:8-3-2005
My friend's wife always accuse him of going after other women just because he wanted to marry the situation has lead mutual distrust, we tried to intervene but it keeps on persisting my friend is considering divorce but she always shed tears when relationship goes soar that she is orphan should he continue to tolerate her because of her orphanage when he knows they don't trust each other?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Marriage has been legislated in Islam for great purposes, among which is to achieve affection between the two mates. Allaah says (which means): {And among His signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.}[30:21]. Therefore, each spouse should endeavour as much as possible to achieve this objective.
We advise the husband to fear Allaah in relation to his wife and be kind to her, and he should not hurt her feelings by discussing with her that he is looking for another wife or tease her with that. We also advise the wife not to prevent her husband from what Allaah has made permissible for him to get married with more than one wife, as long as he is able to provide for them and be just amongst them. The husband should not divorce his wife, because divorce breaks up families and spoils the children. Divorce should be the last resort after trying all other means of reconciliation.
Allaah knows best.
