Wants to become a Muslim but her husband is not a Muslim Fatwa No: 90383
- Fatwa Date:16-8-2005
My name is Depti, I'm an Indian Hindu girl working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia. Recently I started reading about Islam, and I got completely convinced by its teachings, and I believe now in God Oneness and in Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.
I'm married to a Hindu man and I have one kid from him. I just came to know that if I embraced Islam I have to separate from my husband which I absolutely can't do at least now as I'm still not so strong in faith and I can't bear such sacrifice. I do understand that nobody is greater than Allaah and no body has priority over him, but again it is too much to accept the idea of separation now. Somebody told me that for a woman who is married to Christian and living in non-Muslim countries, they can keep on their marriage, but what about my case? I still can do the same?
Please let me know as soon as possible what should I do considering my situation, and I know that I have to do my best to convince my husband in Islam and I hope he will become Muslim too sooner or late, but what about the initial period? I already may lose my father and mother after conversion, and I can't lose my husband too, I can't survive alone in this world. Looking forward to hearing from you.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We have previously said in a matter similar to yours, "We advise the noble questioner to hasten to embrace Islam and avoid any procrastination or delay in this matter. Death may catch her suddenly; then regret and repentance is of no use.
Allaah Says (which means): {But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.}[Quran 4:18].
The Prophet said: "I swear by Allaah, in Whose hands my life is, any Jew or Christian who hears of me and dies without believing in my message will be from among the people of the Hell-Fire." [Muslim]
Therefore, the matter of faith is very serious and critical and cannot be delayed at any cost.
Know that believing in Allaah and accepting Islam is the right of Allaah, the Creator of the worlds, upon you, which is more important than the rights of your parents and your family.
So, hurry and do not delay, Allaah will settle all your problems and will make a way out for you.
Try your best to convince your husband and inform him that he has to seek the truth and must embrace Islam.
