How a sinner will receive his record of deeds on the Day of Resurrection Fatwa No: 9459
- Fatwa Date:31-8-2010
With which hand will the sinning believer, who will enter Hell due to the multitude of his major sins, take his register [of deeds]?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Him, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):
· {Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, He will be judged with an easy account. And return to his people in happiness. But as for he who is given his record behind his back, He will cry out for destruction. And [enter to] burn in a Blaze. Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allaah].} [Quran 84:7-14]
· {So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record! Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." So he will be in a pleasant life -In an elevated garden… But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record. And had not known what is my account. I wish my death had been the decisive one.} [Quran 69:19-27] The verses continue until Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allaah, the Most Great} [Quran 69:33].
These verses mention that the record of deeds will be received in either one’s right or left hand, or from behind, after the arm will be twisted behind the back. Ibn Hazm said that the successful believers would not be tortured and conferred their records in their right hands, while disbelievers would be handed them in their left hands; and, the believers who committed major sins would be given their register from behind their backs. However, there is no text in the Sharee’ah (Islamic jurisprudence) that supports his opinion.
Furthermore, there is nothing explaining how those who commit major sins would receive their records. The apparent meaning of the verses denotes that those who will be given their registers in their right hands will not be tortured, unlike those who will be handed them in their left. Consequently, those who commit major sins and will be tortured [in Hell], will probably be among those who will receive their records in their left hands.
Allaah Knows best.
