Viva Palestina convoy heads to Gaza from Britain

Viva Palestina, a British-based registered charity, embarked on its third humanitarian aid convoy to the Gaza Strip.

Hundreds of volunteers took part in preparing the humanitarian aid convoy for Gaza, which includes 12 ambulances, medical equipment, blankets, shoes and presents for kids.
It has been one year since Israel's attacks over Gaza. Israel launched on Dec. 27 a massive offensive in Gaza, killing nearly 1500 Palestinians, a third of them children, and wounded more than 5000. 1.5 million Gazans live under heavy Israel siege for a long time.
Civil society organizations from different countries, human rights organizations and activists, will meet in Gaza to support the Palestinian people who live under the siege and to draw attention to the humanitarian situation on the first anniversary of the attacks in Gaza.
Beginning the journey with 110 vehicles, the convoy is expected to reach 200 trucks by the end.
The Return to Gaza convoy is led by British politician George Galloway.
It plans to arrive in Gaza on Dec 27 -- the anniversary of the beginning of the Israeli assault on Gaza.
Viva Palestina, formed in January, sent convoys to Gaza earlier this year -- the UK convoy in February and the US convoy in July.
Living up to its motto, "A Lifeline From Britain to Gaza", the international convoy aims not only to break the illegal siege imposed by Israel and send necessities into Gaza, but also wants to highlight the causes and results of wars in view of peace.
The Viva Palestina convoy would make its way across the English Channel to France and on to Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan and then to Egypt before arriving in Gaza on Dec 27.
The convoy is expected to enter to Turkey on December 16. A giant march will be held in December 27 in Gaza. After this march, all the vehicles that come with the convoy will be donated to the Palestinian people.
Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said it has organized the part of the convoy in Turkey.
It is expected that the convoy will expand with the participation of new vehicles in Turkey. To be consist of ambulances, minibuses, trucks, buses and passenger vehicles, aid convoy will go to Syria passing through Istanbul, Ankara, Adana and Gaziantep.
In Malaysia, Perdana Global Peace Organization (PGPO) contributed to this effort.
