BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 9 — The FBI believes the strain of anthrax that killed a tabloid photo editor in Florida and was found in his co-worker’s nose was manmade, suggesting criminal activity. But investigators have found no evidence linking the incident to terrorism.THE SOURCE of the anthrax, which can be used as a biological weapon, is the subject of a federal investigation involving the FBI and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has virtually ruled out environmental causes as the source.
Fears that two Florida newspaper employees were deliberately infected with anthrax were heightened Tuesday when the state’s senior senator Bob Graham said federal health officials told him the chances that the outbreak had occurred naturally were “nil to none.”
