Bush Sends Reinforcements to Iraq
Britain has sent more soldiers to Iraq days after Prime Minister Tony Blair said no decision had been taken on reinforcing troop levels there. A contingent of 120 from an infantry battalion flew out from Cyprus. They are expected to be joined by many more in the coming weeks. The move is in response to persistent instability in Iraq. But earlier in the week there was no indication from Blair that a dispatch of troops was imminent. "We keep it under review constantly (the number of British troops) because we have got to get the job done but there are no decisions that have been taken on additional troops." he said The judicial investigation into the apparent suicide of a government scientist has heaped pressure on Blair. Allegations that his cabinet exaggerated the threat posed by Iraq before the war are a central part of that inquiry. A newspaper poll today reveals a slight majority of people believe he should resign over the affair. **PHOTO CAPTION*** British occupation soldiers work at the British embassy in Baghdad. .(AFP/File/Rabih Moghrabi)
