ETA Suspect Seized by French Police
A man believed to be a top military commander of the armed separatist group ETA has been arrested in France. Anti-terror police swooped on a village in the southwest of the country, seizing Gorka Palacios Alday and three other suspects. Alday, 29, had been on the run for six years and has been blamed for several murderous attacks in Spain. Spanish interior minister Angel Acebes said: "The four people arrested are all members of the Basque terrorist organisation ETA. They are members of the group's operational command and are responsible for planning attacks. They are the most senior ETA members currently in detention." The noose tightened around the ETA military leadership last week with the capture of another suspected top commander, Ibon Fernandez Iradi, also known as "Susper." **PHOTO CAPTION*** Gorka Palacios Alday, the alleged military leader of the Basque separatist group ETA, seen in this undated file photo, was arrested Tuesday Dec. 9, 2003 near Pau in southwest France.
