Two Palestinians Shot Dead in Gaza Strip
Israeli troops late Thursday night killed two Palestinian fighters and wounded another during a Palestinian attempt to infiltrate an army base in the Gaza Strip. A fourth Palestinian managed to escape. According to an Israel Army Radio report, the four armed Palestinians were crawling toward the main road leading to the Gush Katif settlement bloc, when they were sighted by troops in a nearby military outpost. An Israeli tank fired a number of shells at the Palestinians, killing two of them. The German news agency DPA quoted Palestinian security sources as saying Thursday night that two men who were killed in the incident belonged to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and identified them as Ayman Abu Hattab and Raed al-Araj. Palestinian gunners fired a mortar shell at a settlement in the Gaza Strip, Israeli sources reported on Friday. No injuries or damage were reported. **PHOTO CAPTION*** Palestinians carry the body of a militant Moafak al-A'araj, 22, during his funeral in Gaza February 20, 2004. (REUTERS/Mohammed Salem)
