Three US Soldiers Wounded near Fallujah, as Seven Iraqis Killed in Protest, Bombing
A roadside bomb wounded three US soldiers in an American military convoy on Thursday near Fallujah. Following the incident, American forces briefly blocked roads leading into Fallujah. The attack took place on a road a few kilometers outside this Iraqi city, locals told AP. In Ramadi, west of Fallujah, six Iraqi civilians died and four were injured Wednesday evening in a car bombing at a market, said Lt. Col. Steve Murray, a US spokesman. Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces fired on protesters demanding jobs as policemen in the southern city of Basra on Thursday, killing one demonstrator and injuring two others, officials said, according to AP. A British military vehicle that was in the area at the time was hit by some stones thrown by the protesters. The clash took place outside the local Customs building in Basra. Hospital official Khaled Abdullah said the wounded were in serious condition. Also Thursday, two blasts close to a U.S.-escorted fuel convoy injured at least one Iraqi in northern Baghdad, witnesses said. **PHOTO CAPTION*** A U.S. Humvee vehicle burns on a highway near Falluja April 1, 2004, after it had been hit by a roadside bomb, abandoned and set on fire.
